Our sailboat is our home so we understand the importance of reliable equipment when it comes to anchoring our home securely. Recently, we made an upgrade to our anchoring system by investing in the Mantus Anchor Bridle.
The Mantus Anchor Bridle & Snubber System
When we decided to enhance our anchor control, we researched various options available on the market. The Mantus Anchor Bridle stood out as a comprehensive solution that offered everything we needed. The bridle set includes a sturdy three strand nylon line, chafe guards, and a chain hook, providing a complete package for effective anchoring. We also bought a mooring shackle to use the bridle system.
Installation and Setup
Installing the Mantus Anchor Bridle is a straightforward process. After we anchor, we run the bridle lines through the hawsepipes at the bow of our boat, making sure the bridle is on the outside of the bobstay wire. The hawsepipes provide a secure passage for the lines, preventing any unnecessary rubbing or wear. Once the lines are in place, we hook the ends over the Samson posts, ensuring a stable connection. We place the included chain hook/grabber onto a link in the anchor chain and secure it with the included strap. Then we let out more anchor chain until the tension is off the chain and windlass and on the bridle.
Improved Anchor Chain Control
One of the standout features of a bridle is its ability to absorb the shock load from wind gusts and wave as high as 3 feet. It also prevents the anchor chain from clanging against the bobstay wire. This benefit is especially valuable during rough weather conditions when the boat is subject to significant motion. By taking the tension off the windlass we minimize potentially damaging the it and we eliminate the annoying noise and potential damage caused by the chain hitting the bobstay wire. And with the tension on the bridle the Lofrans Tigres windlass isn’t under all the strain on our anchor.
