Rigging Defined

Rigging comprises the system of ropes, cables and chains, which support a sailing ship or sailboat’s masts—standing rigging, including shrouds and stays—and which adjust the position of the vessel’s sails and spars to which they are attached—the running rigging, including halyards, braces, sheets and vangs.

If you think that sounds complicated – you’re RIGHT!  And we have a fairly simple sail plan.

Standing Rigging

We are not DONE with our standing rigging; all new shrouds, stays, swages, Hayn Hi-mod fittings, and turnbuckles.  What a relief to finally get that done.  I can tell you Rich is darn sick of climbing the mast.

Running Rigging

This one we’re not completely done with, but all the halyards are replaced and we installed a new spare halyard as well.  Plus, we now have rope clutches on the mast.  We still have to replace all the sheet lines, but that’s about it.  We figure we’ll do that when we get new sails which will be VERY soon.

Future Projects

We shorten the boom by about a foot, finish some pesky fiberglass work, add a manual bilge pump in the cockpit, and re-install the manual foot pumps in the galley and the head.  Also, I swear I’m going to update the Project Pages one of these days.  Until then, this page and our YouTube Channel will have to do.
