Latex Mattress: Upgrading Our V-Berth
When it comes to outfitting our sailboat, comfort is a crucial aspect that directly affects the quality of our journey. A good night’s sleep is vital for sailors who need to be well-rested and energized for their time on the water. If you’re considering replacing your worn-out closed cell foam mattress, latex foam can be […]
Taking Out the Trash
There are a lot of things I never thought I’d get excited about until we moved on a boat, and the trash can is one of them. The trash can has been a problem since we “remodeled” the galley. The old trash can was a hole in the middle of the countertop. It wasted a lot […]
Changes for the New Year
I think when you have a huge, multi-year project you’re working on (like we do), it makes it easier on family when they ask you what you want for Christmas. We have a huge list of boat projects that all cost money, so we’re never at a loss for things we need. Amazon, West Marine […]
Drain Bamage
A month or so ago I decided to clean out the kitchen and bathroom sink drains with vinegar. I’ve done this one time before and it worked great. Because there is no p-trap the sinks can get a little stinky and cleaning them with vinegar makes them nice and fresh again. The process is simple.
Finally, a cheap project
Don’t worry, I’m still working in the installation of our new MSD. Work (the kind that pays me money) has been busy, so I’m sorta’ doing boat things on the weekends. The other day on my way home I stopped at Lowe’s and saw these hanging next to the check out line…
No work
Work has come to a screeching halt lately. My sister and her family came to visit on Saturday so Rich and I spent Saturday morning cleaning up the boat. We hadn’t cleaned the outside of the boat since…it rained last? Shameful.
Treasure Hunt
One of the big differences between living in a house and living on a boat is where stuff is stored. In a house it all makes perfect sense. Clothes are stored in the bedroom closet; bath towels are stored in the linen closet; and food is stored in the kitchen. It sounds pretty logical, right? […]
Fat Suki
We finally broke down and bought a dinghy. Our boat came with a dinghy disguised as an inflatable pool toy so we knew we were going to get an adult-sized dinghy eventually. When the weather started warming up we began contemplating getting a dinghy or kayaks or standup paddle boards. Browsing on Craigs List the […]
White Trash Bimini redux.
As you may have seen from previous pictures of our boat, we have an interesting way of keeping the rain off of Ramble On. $25 tarps from Lowe’s, a couple of 10′ lengths of PVC pipe, a shit-load of bungee cords, and a handful of zip-ties. Hey man, we live in the Delta and it […]
Sextant is Not a Dirty Word
In today’s world of electronic gadgets and do-dads, I think very few, if any, people rely on the sextant for navigation. If there are any hardcore, back-to-basics, navigators out there that truly do use the sextant, good on ya.
